_____I'm Council Person Sharon Berger. I've lived in Northfield 21 years and have three children, all grown and gone. Steve and I live on Fox Creek Court, the geographical low point of Northfield. This gives me a special interest in drainage. (more about that later) I am the Northfield Liaison to MSD, the Highway Department and Rumpke Waste and Recycling.
_____Rumpke collects our trash twice weekly, on Monday and Thursday morning . They collect at the back door. Trash must be in standard cans or garbage bags. The limit is five standard cans or 10 standard bags. Trash must be out by 6 A.M. on the day of collection. Trash includes normal food waste and household trash that will fit in a standard can. They will collect one large item per house per collection day. If the item requires more than one man to lift it, then, Rumpke must be notified in advance (568-3800). Loose items must be bundled, in bundles not over 4 feet long or 70 lbs. Trash does not include construction debris, yard waste or plant matter, hazardous materials , tires, batteries, liquids, such as oil or paint, CFC's such as freon. Paint cans will be collected, as long as they are completely dried out with lids off. You can dry them out by using sand or cat litter.
_____Yard waste is also collected on Thursday morning. It must be at the curb by 6A.M. the day of collection. Yard waste is grass, weeds, leaves, and prunings and branches not larger than 3 inches in diameter and 4 ft long, and shrubbery. These must be in up to 6 standard cans, with lids off, or labeled "yard waste"or up to 10 plastic or paper bags, labeled "yard waste". Loose items should be bundled, not to exceed 4 ft. long or 50 lbs.
_____Recycling (the Red Bin) is also picked up from the curb on Thursday morning. It also must be out by 6 A.M. We are limited to 2 bins. All plastic containers #1-#7 are recyclable. Also accepted are newspapers and advertising inserts, brown grocery bags, telephone books, magazine and catalogues no thicker than 1 inch, Office and computer paper, paperboard and beverage carrying cases, gift boxes , cereal boxes, etc,glass bottles and jars; clear and colored, Aluminum cans , Tin, steel, bi-metal food cans, Aluminum foil and foil food containers, corrugated cardboard in bundles 2X2 ft. Remove lids from jars and bottles. Make sure all items are CLEAN!
_____When a holiday occurs during the week, all collections from that holiday through the rest of the week will be on the business day following the usual collection day..
